SALT LAKE CITY --Loving husband, step-father, father, grandfather and good friend, Frank Oliver Andersen, passed away June 11, 2000, of natural causes at St. Mark's Hospital. He was 93 years old.

Frank was born September 19, 1906 in Norway. In 1913, his family sailed to America, settling in Utah.

During World War II, Frank enlisted and served in the United States Navy as a fighting SeaBee in the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Frank was a Master Craftsman Carpenter. He was also an artist who combined his pride in his Viking heritage with his designs in the fine woodworks, cabinetry and painting he became known for in the Salt Lake Valley.
He had a deep curiosity in people from all walks of life. He was kind to, and took an interest in, anyone he met, and he made countless friends. He loved being outdoors - whether fishing, building things, taking walks or just enjoying nature. He also had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader with a love of history. He was particularly enthusiastic about the Old West and Native American culture.

Frank was a mentor to many people throughout his life who considered him quite an authority on a wide range of subjects. He was a very bright man who delighted in sharing his thoughts and ideas.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters; his granddaughter, Cathi Ann; his first wife, Bernice, to whom he was married for five years before her death; and his second wife, Dagmar, to whom he was married for 51 years before her death in 1988.

Frank met his present wife, Charlotte, in May, 1991, and they married on March 14, 1994. Frank loved their life together and they made each other very happy. He told Charlotte every single day how much joy she had brought him, so much joy that he would say he thought he was already in heaven. Frank was a romantic, charming, loveable man and Charlotte adored him. Regardless of the kind of day it was to be, he awoke each morning singing "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning," and he was always dancing her across a room.

Frank is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his stepchildren: Loretta Smallwood, Marlene Lammers, Robert Pourier and their respective families; his dearest nephew (by marriage), Peter Tartaro and his family; Frank's daughter, Lily A. Griggs and her three sons: Brent Griggs, Kevin Griggs, Lynn Griggs and their respective families and many friends.

Frank's death leaves a void that cannot be filled. It was a privilege to have Frank in our lives and we are all better people for having known him. He was a unique, loving man with a good sense of humor, and he will be sorely missed. Heaven, however, is in for a real treat.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at 12 noon in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where family and friends may call from 10-11:45 a.m., prior to services.

      Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
